Portfolio/Luca Marcelli Pitzalis

Portfolio  is one of the two exhibition cycles of the program Quotidiana at the Museo di Roma – Palazzo Braschi conceived and produced by La Quadriennale di Roma in collaboration with Roma Culture, Rome’s Superintendency for Cultural Heritage. Its aim is to explore a number of significant trends in 21st-century Italian art.
Once a month, an artist under the age of 35 is presented in the exhibition with a single work. Their research is narrated in a portfolio developed by the of the Quadriennale di Roma.

The fifteenth exhibition of Portfolio (22 December 2023 – 21 January 2024) is dedicated to Luca Marcelli Pitzalis (Cagliari, 1995). His research is based on emotional communication. It mediates this communication through the tools of voice and writing, moulded in turn by various techniques and media including installations, performances, video, audio, newsletters, and musical texts. Chafing at the pressures and expectations of society, the public, and the art world, Marcelli Pitzalis’s work centres on a state of vulnerability and on a strident, anti-performative condition. The artist achieves this condition by laying himself bare, generating a sense of unease in a community that is unaccustomed to contemplating failure, irrationality, and the rawness of emotions. Corrispondenze Vol. I originates in an e-mail exchange that took place between the artist and the users subscribed to a dedicated newsletter which was sent at 10 p.m. every other Wednesday for a whole year, in which he invited his interlocutors to reply. Chasing after the possibility of a communication unmediated by his own emotional sphere, the artist encouraged the creation of a temporary virtual space capable of becoming a free zone with respect to social protocols, guaranteeing mutual understanding and the sensitive recognition of a small community.

The exhibition venue is the Museo di Roma-Palazzo Braschi (Piazza di San Pantaleo, 10/Piazza Navona, 2). The admission is free without reservation. Opening hours: from Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 – 19.00
