Portfolio/Giuseppe Di Liberto

Portfolio is one of the two exhibition cycles of the program Quotidiana at the Museo di Roma- Palazzo Braschi conceived and produced by La Quadriennale di Roma in collaboration with Roma Culture, Rome’s Superintendency for Cultural Heritage. Its aim is to explore a number of significant trends in 21st-century Italian art.

Once a month, eleven artists under the age of 35 are presented in the exhibition with a single work. Their research is narrated in a portfolio developed by the Curator-in-residence at La Quadriennale.

The third exhibition of Portfolio, (19 November to 11 December 2022), is dedicated to Giuseppe Di Liberto (Palermo, 1996). Performing the process of transformation of matter, the artist focuses on the transience of the material as a collective and individual reflection of death. To consult his portfolio read here.

Cortei (2022) is a sculptural work in clay that changes during the exhibition. Two sculptural groups represent funeral processions, each with a different destiny: the first procession is subjected to an automatic drip mechanism to the point it dissolves, the clay models are turned into a shapeless mass, while the second procession does not receive any water, and eventually dries up.

Excessive nourishment, but also no nourishment at all, leads to the dissolution and disappearance of form, a metaphor of the fragility of existence embodied by the sculptural materiai used.

The exhibition venue is the Museo di Roma-Palazzo Braschi (Piazza di San Pantaleo, 10/Piazza Navona, 2). Admission free without reservation. Opening hours: from Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 – 19.00
