Portfolio/Federica Francesconi

Portfolio  is one of the two exhibition cycles of the program Quotidiana at the Museo di Roma – Palazzo Braschi conceived and produced by La Quadriennale di Roma in collaboration with Roma Culture, Rome’s Superintendency for Cultural Heritage. Its aim is to explore a number of significant trends in 21st-century Italian art.

Once a month, eleven artists under the age of 35 are presented in the exhibition with a single work. Their research is narrated in a portfolio developed by the of the Quadriennale di Roma.

The thirteenth exhibition of Portfolio (20 October – 19 November 2023) is dedicated to Federica Francesconi (Brescia, 1994). Her practice focuses on the theme of the fallacious perception of reality and, in particular, on the ways in which our expectations influence it, analysing reality as a hybrid between what we expect and what actually exists. In Clickbait (2022), Federica Francesconi reflects provocatively about the systems of consuming art. Just like an article online that performs a clickbait operation, i.e. capturing the reader’s attention without giving them actual content, the artist plays on the viewer’s expectations, drawing them into the artist’s own spider’s web. With their garish monochrome, the works act as exclamation marks in space, seeking to declare only their own presence.

The exhibition venue is the Museo di Roma-Palazzo Braschi (Piazza di San Pantaleo, 10/Piazza Navona, 2). The admission is free without reservation. Opening hours: from Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 – 19.00
