Portfolio is one of the two exhibition cycles of the program Quotidiana at the Museo di Roma – Palazzo Braschi conceived and produced by La Quadriennale di Roma in collaboration with Roma Culture, Rome’s Superintendency for Cultural Heritage. Its aim is to explore a number of significant trends in 21st-century Italian art.
Once a month, eleven artists under the age of 35 are presented in the exhibition with a single work. Their research is narrated in a portfolio developed by the Curator-in-residence at La Quadriennale.
The eleventh exhibition of Portfolio (7 July – 3 September 2023) is dedicated to Lucia Cristiani (Milan, 1991). In her research, the landscape is investigated as a place in which identities are cross-fertilised, as an open system where different cultures meet to imagine a possible coexistence. The work Maida (2022) consists of a series of galvanisations of wildflowers in silver, in which the roots intertwine until they create an impossible graft. The varieties of flowers are not connected by affinities of species or geographic – and yet, in the imagined scene conveyed by the artist, they establish a symbiosis, thus outlining a new hybrid organism. The fragility of this graft contrasts with the hardness of the tapestry and metal filaments, which would appear to be an inhospitable setting for the creation of new relationship. Yet, this repelling ecosystem seems to induce the organisms to seek new possibilities for survival through a principle of solidarity.
The exhibition venue is the Museo di Roma-Palazzo Braschi (Piazza di San Pantaleo, 10/Piazza Navona, 2). The admission is free without reservation. Opening hours: from Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 – 19.00
