5  June  – 6 July 2014   Mauricio Lupini

The first stage of the exhibition cycle “La poetica degli omaggi” opened at the Quadriennale in Villa Carpegna last 10 April. Divided into three solo shows until July 2014, each introduced by a round table, this cycle will feature works that, within the vast acceptance of citations in contemporary art, all reuse images and signs borrowed from film, writing and the visual arts.

The Thorsten Kirchoff show ‘Retrovisione, introduced by Bruno Di Marino, presents the first anthological review of the films made by the artist from 1997 to today. Kirchoff, who has built his archive of images upon cinema, maintains that the cinema is “an infinite archive” and that you can find any image you want there. Narrative structures comprised of textual grafting, associations and references, generate disturbing tales that emerge from the screen to dialogue with real space.

The inauguration will be preceded by the presentation of Lucilla Meloni’s book “Arte guarda Arte. Pratiche della citazione nell’arte contemporanea” (Postmediabooks, Milano 2013), which was discussed with Bruno di Marino and Daniela Lancioni during the inauguration.

The Thorsten Kirchhoff exhibit “Retrovisione” is open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 9.30 to 1.30 p.m. and from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
