He began working at the Galleria Civica of Modena in 1986, collaborating on the exhibitions Roma 1934, Alberto Ziveri, Ferruccio Ferrazzi, and Antonietta Raphael. From 1995 to 2005 he was director of the Galleria Civica di Modena, where he curated a number of theme exhibitions, including L\u2019invenzione del paesaggio (1995), Le metamorfosi del corpo (1996), L\u2019eroe borghese. Temi e figure da Schiele a Warhol (2000), Pop Art UK \u2013 British Pop Art 1956-1972 (2004, with Marco Livingstone), Pop Art Italia \u2013 1958-1968 (2005), and  <strong> <\/strong>the retrospectives on Allen Jones, Mel Ramos, Domenico Gnoli, Peter Phillips, and Allan D\u2019Arcangelo. From 2004 to 2015 he was president of the scientific committee of the \u201cUniCredit e l\u2019arte\u201d project, contributing to the creation of the banking group\u2019s art collection, which was presented in several exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He has been one of the Art Directors of the Fotografica Europea Festival of Reggio Emilia since 2018, where he curated numerous exhibitions of historical and contemporary artists, both Italian and otherwise. From 1995 to 2003, he collaborated as an art critic with La Repubblica, and from 2006 to 2021 he was responsible for the photography section of the magazine Il Giornale dell\u2019Arte. He began collaborating with the magazine FMR in 2005, then becoming co-director from 2008 to 2010 of the magazine FMR &#8211; Bianca. He has published a number of books, including the monographs      <em>Henri Matisse. La vita e l\u2019opera <\/em> (Idea Libri, Milan 1993), <em>Domenico Gnoli. Lettere e scritti  <\/em>(Abscondita, Milan, 2004) and numerous essays on the history of photography. Among the most memorable exhibitions he has curated, we mention:  <em>Gastone Novelli.
