From 1995 to 2018 he was Artistic Director of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo of Turin, where he curated numerous exhibition of Italian art, including: Campo 6,  <em>EXIT. Nuove geografie della creativit\u00e0 italiana; <\/em>; <em>21 x 21 x 21 artisti per il 21\u00b0 secolo; Un\u2019espressione geografica. Unit\u00e0 e identit\u00e0 dell\u2019Italia attraverso l\u2019arte contemporanea. <\/em><br\/>In 2003, he was appointed director of the 50th International Art Exhibition \u2013 Venice Biennale. He was curator of the SITE Santa Fe Biennial in 1997, Manifesta 3 in Ljubljana in 2000, and the 75th Whitney Biennial of American Art in 2010. Since 2013, he has been Artistic Director of ByArtMatters, contemporary art centre in Hangzhou, China, designed by Renzo Piano. In 2010 he received the Legion D\u2019Honneur of the French Republic. Notable exhibitions he has curated: <em>Unfinished History<\/em>, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1998); <em>Examining Pictures: exhibiting paintings<\/em>, White Chapel, London (1999); <em>Italics. Arte italiana fra tradizione e rivoluzione <\/em>, Palazzo Grassi, Venice (2008), Rudolf Stingel MCA Chicago (2007) Jeff Koons, MCA Chicago 2008, Damien Hirst, Doha Qatar Museum Authority (2013). Maurizio Cattelan UCCA Bejing (2021), Urs Fischer, Fondazione Jumex Mexico City (2022). His writings are published in \u201cIl Foglio\u201d e \u201cVanity Fair Italia\u201d. His most recent publications include <em>POST. L\u2019opera d\u2019arte nell\u2019epoca della sua riproducibilit\u00e0 sociale<\/em> (Feltrinelli 2019), <em>Bello sembra un quadro &#8211; Controstoria dell\u2019arte<\/em> (Feltrinelli 2022),and <em>The Spintster\u2019s Poems<\/em> (Karma Books 2024).
